Scott sails to NEMWIL regatta crown
MATTHEW SCOTT sailed to victory in the optimist class of the NEMWIL-sponsored Southern Caribbean Invitational Regatta at Harts Cot Bay, Chaguaramas yesterday. Scott earned 17 points over the three days of action with fellow Trinidad and Tobago sailor Andrew Lewis next with 39 points and Mexican Diego Reyes third with 41 points. Trinidad and Tobago took the top three places in the MR 15 class - Melissa Hart and Justin Castagne won with 12 points, followed by Diva Amon and Daniel Stollmeyer (20) and Jason Tindale and Gregory Douglas (22).
The French duo of Lauhon Jean-Denis and Guillaume Dos Santos finished one-two in the Laser Standard category; Jean-Denis ended with 14 points, while Dos Santos had 17 points. TT’s Phillip De Gannes was third with 27 points. Englishman Paul Amon and Mark Loe had an easy win in the SR Max class with 11 points, ahead of Gregory Loe, Justin Rivers and Ricky McIntosh (23) and Nicholas Rupnarine, Earl Tobias and Brendon Butts (29). Matthew Scott was named the best sailor in the 12-15 age group while Wesley Scott was adjudged the best sailor in the Under-12 category. Martinique’s Anne Sophie was the best female sailor while Elijah Simmons of Bermuda walked away with the sportsmanship award. Among the sponsors of the three-day event were Nemwil Insurance, Hand Arnold, Anthony P Scott, Power Boats, AS Bryden, Vemco, TIDCO, Bermudez, Berger Paints, Solimar and Laughlin & De Gannes.
