Freeport man is nation’s first road fatality
Twenty minutes into the new year a Freeport man became the country’s first road fatality for 2005 when he crashed into a concrete culvert. Paul Collymore, 39, a welder, of Calcutta Road, had gone to a friend’s house to collect a part for his music system after it stopped working while he was deejaying at New Year’s party, at a neighbour’s house.
On his way back around 12.20 am, police reports said, he was travelling north along Buccaro Road, when he lost control of his brown Mazda 626 and crashed into the culvert. He was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Centre, via EHS ambulance, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Collymore was not married and had no children. Cpl Radikissoon of the Freeport Police Station is continuing investigations.
