Bandits strike Marabella caterer
THE BANDITS who broke into Superb Caterers at Marabella over the weekend may have been able to host their own New Year’s party. They made off with alcohol, a stereo system and about $40,000 in cash The owner Wayne Ali made the discovery when he went to his office yesterday. “They took all the scotch and expensive drinks and left the cheap stuff,” Ali’s kitchen manager, Beena Rampersad told Newsday, pointing to a cabinet which was emptied except for several bottles of Clayton’s Kola Tonic and a few bottles of rum. Ali, who run the business from Ghandi Street for over 13 years, opened the door to his office to find in the ceiling two holes with a ladder underneath one of them, and a cupboard storing alcohol broken open.
Missing were salaries for the employees left secured in the drawers, petty cash, alcoholic drinks, and a stereo system from the hall area that was used during in-house functions. The place was secured early Saturday morning after Ali hosted an Old Year’s Night party, and was opened only yesterday morning. Rampersad said it was uncertain when the bandits struck since no one went into the upstairs area over the weekend. Rampersad said, “We worked whole day on Saturday but nobody came upstairs.” “I don’t know how they got down from there,” he said, referring to the height of the ceiling. Marabella police is continuing investigations.
