Sandy Lane Gold Cup winner Kathir disqualified

AFTER 10 months since the running of the 2004 Sandy Lane Gold Cup, the Barbados Turf Club have decided to disqualify winner Kathir. By information through the Arima Race Club yesterday, the BTC said their prohibitive substance body have concluded their inquiry into the report of a positive finding in the sample taken from the horse Kathir after the running of the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup on March 6, 2004. Accordingly, the BTC indicated that Kathir which passed the post first in the race in which Trinidad and Tobago champion Sugar Mike flopped badly finishing ninth in the 11-horse field, was disqualified.


Kathir, ridden by Slade Callaghan who campaigns in Canada, won the 1800 metres race from Feet On Flames, the mount of Anderson Ward with Talkaboutlucky third with Ricky Walcott astride and Storm Hunter fourth. Now the $114,000 first prize and gold cup will go to Feet On Flames and owner Luther Miller III. Talkaboutlucky was elevated to second and owner CN Parravicino will collect the runner-up prize of $44,000, and Storm Hunter the new third place finisher earned owner Lord Michael Taylor $22,000, while Lion Country earned owner CTA Stables the $11,000 fourth place money. Fifth was Moonshine Hall whose owner Eugene and Laura Melynk get $6,000, while Sharp Impact who was sixth got $3,000 for owner Gay Smith.
