St Clair expects better against St Vincent

NATIONAL coach Bertille St Clair is expecting a better showing by his team against St Vincent in their Digicel Caribbean Cup third round first-leg fixture at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, on Sunday. The Trinidad and Tobago squad will meet the Vincentians in the second-leg on January 16, with the winners advancing to the four-team final round qualifiers in Barbados from February 20-24. St Clair is adamant that the TT lads display a greater effort than they did in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on November 17, when they were forced to earn a come-from-behind 2-1 win.

“I have told the guys that not because we think these kind of teams are below us in the rankings mean that we must look down at them and then drop our standard of play,” said St Clair yesterday. “From now on we must take every game as a stepping stone and we must aim to do good stuff on the football pitch. “I am asking these guys to wipe off the last match with a better showing on Sunday,” St Clair added. A 19-man squad was announced yesterday with New York/New Jersey Metrostars striker Cornell Glen, wingbacks Avery John of New England Revolution and Cyd Gray of CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh as well as China-based forward Gary Glasgow all back from injuries. Veteran midfielders Angus Eve and Anthony Rougier are in the fold as well as captain Derek King, US-based midfielder Leslie “Tiger” Fitzpatrick and the unrelated Williams goalkeepers - Daurance and Jan-Michael.

Team: Daurance Williams, Jan-Michael Williams (goalkeepers); Cyd Gray, Marlon Rojas, Derek King, Anton Pierre, David Atiba Charles, Avery John, Keyeno Thomas (defenders); Angus Eve, Densil Theobald, Leslie Fitzpatrick, Kerwyn Jemmott, Michael Celestine, Anthony Rougier (midfielders); Gary Glasgow, Nigel Pierre, Cornell Glen, and Conrad Smith (strikers).
