Jones strikes again for Wednesday
LONDON: TRINIDAD and Tobago utility player Kenwyne Jones made it seven goals in six matches as Sheffield Wednes-day maintained their promotion push in a 2-0 victory against Swindon yesterday. The on-loan Southamp-ton striker Jones stabbed home Wednesday’s second after Chris Brunt had caused a goalmouth scramble with his 68th-minute cross.
Fellow loan star Joey O’Brien had volleyed Wednesday in front just before half-time. The midfielder, starting his second month on loan from Bolton, scored his third goal for the Owls six minutes before the break. Jon-Paul McGovern raced down the right and crossed for in-form striker Steve Maclean. Swindon goalkeeper Rhys Evans came out to punch the ball but his clearance fell straight to O’Brien, who volleyed first time into the bottom corner from 18 yards. Wednesday had a hatful of chances as Maclean (twice), Lee Bullen, Jones, and Glenn Whelan were all denied by Evans. Alan Reeves missed a free header for Swindon late on and Sam Parkin fired an effort wide.
