PTSC sued over death of mom
RELATIVES of three children orphaned after the death of their mother in an accident involving a Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) bus, are suing the corporation for negligence. The writ was filed in the Port-of-Spain High Court on Friday by attorney-at-law Yaseen Ahmed on behalf of Baby Jassodra and Nadine Maharaj.
Baby Jassodra is the grandmother of Anil, Anthony and Sheena Maharaj, whose mother Charo Maharaj died in a vehicular accident on Blanchisseuse Road, Arima on January 12, 2001. Nadine is the sister of Charo. Late last year Baby Jassodra gained guardianship of Anil, Anthony, and Sheena. The Maharaj family is claiming damages for negligence, caused by negligent driving, management and/or control by the driver of a PTSC bus, registration number HBG 337, along the Blanchisseuse Road, Arima.
They are claiming the bus in which Charo was a lawful passenger drove off a cliff. Charo suffered serious injuries and died as a result of asphyxia, due to chest compression by fractured ribs. At the time of her death, Charo lived alone with her children at Upper Village, Charles Street, Blanchisseuse, close to her mother Baby Jassodra.
