Quick exit for garbage trucks
THE EDITOR: I read in one of the daily newspapers on Christmas Day that one of the reasons for the garbage pile-up in Port-of-Spain is that garbage trucks are taking too much time to off-load their garbage in the Beetham landfill. Whereas they used to make five trips per day, they can only make two trips daily on account of the congestion on the Beetham Highway and within the dump itself.
I wish to suggest to the authorities that the road which passes in front of Bhagwansingh’s Hardware store and NP Headquarters be extended eastward directly into the Beetham dump with a circular road within the dump itself, so that the garbage trucks could return immediately without having to use the Beetham Highway which is usually congested with traffic. This will certainly prevent a garbage pile-up in the city in the future, especially at Christmas and Carnival.
