Two men murdered

TT’s murder toll is now eight in eight days. Security officer Raffique Rahim was found dead with his head bashed in yesterday morning on a boat anchored at Sea Lots. Some hours before the discovery of Rahim’s body, Marvin Romero was shot dead shortly after visiting his girlfriend’s home at Pump Trace, Laventille.

According to reports Rahim,34, of Sixth Company Village, New Grant, a security officer aboard the vessel Sea Swan, was last seen alive around 7 pm on Friday night when he entered the trawler, anchored at a dockyard  in Sea Lots, to sleep. Around 9 am yesterday, when he was not seen, a fisherman went in search of him and found his body lying on the ground, in a pool of blood with his head bashed in. Several items were also missing. The vessel is owned by Lincoln Maraj of Santa Cruz. Police believe he was beaten with a hammer.

Visiting the scene were ASP Piggott and a team of officers from the Besson Street police station. Cpl Mercer is investigating. In the first murder which occurred about 7 pm on Friday night Marvin,31, was speaking to a friend at Pump Trace, Laventille when three armed men ran into the road and started firing in the direction of the father of two. He ran to a nearby shop where he collapsed in his cousin’s arms. The bleeding man was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General hospital where he died while undergoing surgery.
