Living like wild animals

THE EDITOR: To the youths of the nation — have you ever sat down for a moment and thought about your life? Have you ever thought about what you want to be, or what sort of reputation you want for yourselves? I thought of it and this is what I have to tell you. Life is so beautiful. I am not rich, there are many, many things I wish I could have but my parents can’t give me. I don’t wear the tops costing $200 or the nice shoes costing $300. But that does not stop me from thinking positively. I have dreams, they are so far from coming through, but I know by the next two years I will accomplish them.

I will work, go to school at nights and I will one day hope and pray, not forgetting work hard to become a successful accountant. Nothing is impossible. Why is there so much hate and violence? We have so many weak, little, senseless people in Trinidad.  Why do we kill our neighbours? Such hatred! We are worse than animals. Anger is weakness. You point a gun — weakness. Anger clouds judgment and action. Smart people are people who think. We have a heart, brain and conscience, we should use these three assets more often. Remember life is a two-way road — right and wrong. No one is perfect but one cannot always be foolish.

To the young ladies of Trinidad and Tobago. Don’t you love yourselves? Why is it that more women have AIDS in this country? Why are so many young girls between 16, 17, 18... 23 years spoiling their lives having babies for fathers who are cowards? Some guys are responsible, but lo and behold some are not. There is a saying “It have man, and it have man.” Girls, come on, be smart, don’t spoil your lives. Be good to yourselves and bodies. Be safe. People, especially youths, need to put aside differences. Boys why are you killing yourselves over a girl or fighting over a girl? Sit and use your big brains not to think for the moment but for the future.

We are young. Being young we often take lust and love for the same. Remember love lasts forever, the heart never forgets. Lust makes the heart forget. Our youth is not meant to be spent fighting nor hating nor envying. We are going to be adults one day. Let’s be better than our parents or at least be someone who can look at themselves in the mirror and say “I did good.” Life is not about fame or fortune. Look past those things, all the money in the world couldn’t pay for a full life. When you know who you are the simple things and words mean more than gold. You can be filthy rich and you may get sick and may die and go. Your money will remain, but where will you go?
