Thanks Sangre Grande Hospital staff
THE EDITOR: Last week I had the misfortune of falling ill enough to require hospitalisation. I was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital. It is now that I can appreciate how Mr Rahael can feel proud of the way the tireless workers perform in his ministry. Indeed our doctors and nurses perform daily miracles of love and care. I was promptly placed in the hands of some of the kindest professionals who comforted me in the time of my distress. An avuncular African doctor had the time to be reassuring and overflowing with human kindness. I always was, and still am, grateful to God for people like this doctor.
We all have heard stories about ill treatment at our health institutions but I benefitted from the courtesy, charity and care that was beyond the scope of my expectations. The matron at Ward 6 is an example to all her other professional colleagues. This lady made all of us feel that we were individually cared for and her able, efficient staff seemed more than ready to walk the extra mile, to go out of their way to provide care and comfort for the patients in their charge. A young African doctor in charge of the ward made his patients realise that their welfare was his concern.
The whole attitude of the staff in this ward was one of caring for the patients. It did a lot to comfort our tortured minds It is not that there were not some patients whose attitudes were testing not only to fellow patients but especially to the tireless nurses themselves. I do not know how these nightingales managed, but somehow they took care of the recalcitrant few who seemed intent on causing trouble. Thanks again to you kind people who worked selflessly and unsung to help those who need your assistance. God bless you all. Visit Sangre Grande hospital and see these unacknowledged heroes who serve without fuss or fanfare, Mr Rahael.
E FORTUN?
Arima
