President’s brother-in-law shot in robbery attack

BUSINESSMAN Winston Ramjohn, brother of His Excellency George Maxwell Richards’ wife Jean Ramjohn-Richards, remains warded at San Fernando General Hospital after being shot in both legs during a robbery incident at his south businessplace yesterday afternoon. A major police manhunt for the bandits is now underway, but up to last night, no arrests had been made. According to police reports, around 4.30 pm, Ramjohn was at his businessplace — W Ramjohn Grocery and Cafe — at Todd Street, San Fernando when two bandits ran into the grocery.

One of the bandits shot Ramjohn once in both legs and as the proprietor slumped to the ground, both bandits proceeded to the cash register which they opened and removed an undisclosed sum before escaping. Ramjohn raised an alarm and a report was made to police. The bleeding man was taken to the hospital where he was treated and remains warded. His condition has been described as stable. Their Excellencies, Newsday was told, have been apparised of the situation. Snr Supt Nazir Mohammed is leading investigations.
