What a pity, what a shame

THE EDITOR: It is a pity and such a great shame to see after years of great broadcasting the National Broadcasting Network (NBN) would be taken off the air on Friday January 14, 2005. The people in this country would remember before we had radio we had rediffusion. A reception box something like a speaker box that was placed in our drawing rooms. Then at the transmission station at Radio Trinidad, music would be played to entertain the people because there were no radios at that time.

The two radio pioneers at Radio Trinidad were Bob Gittens and Sam Ghany. I am sure these two deceased gentlemen must be crying and turning in their graves to see the destruction of their hard work while bringing entertainment to the people in this country. Certain people were elected to build and improve, but their mission seemed to be to destroy and mash up, so we see where the 2020 Vision is only old talk and a big farce. This country is being systematically destroyed with the likes of Caroni, the health sector and the education system. Nothing seems to be working because of no planning, and no true patriotism, but only deception. The radio station and TTT are being shut down because of selfish reasons.

Caroni was first to go. Now it is TTT and Radio Trinidad 100FM. At this rate there would be nothing left of the old heritage that the people of this country fought so hard to build, and so easily this effort of supremacy is being destroyed without great thought and sympathy. It is sad to see that people in the rural areas of Trinidad and the eastern side of Tobago would be without news and entertainment from their television sets, what a shame! It is sad to see for about fifty years this landmark had to die an unnatural death, by those who say they care, but have ulterior motives. People in deep south like Icacos, Cedros, Barrackpore and La Brea will suffer because TV6 reception is very poor in these areas.

It is a pity that poor children who look forward to their educational programmes will lose Sesame Street. They gained so much educationally with this programme. All our calypsos and steel bands would suffer on Saturdays when Alan Diaz and his co-host would be also off the airways. It is so sad to see that this Government could also be so unworthy in their thinking, but people get the Government they deserve. I sympathise with Alan Diaz. The people in this country have themselves to blame for the assault of these industries where jobs were being absorbed by the people of this nation. Not appreciating good governance and falling for propaganda that is now coming to haunt those who fell for that deception. What is next in line for the destruction is left to be seen in this country, only time will tell.
