A POLICE officer who assisted with the investigations into the murder of Bruce Wilson took the witness stand yesterday. On trial for the murder is Emmanuel King of Factory Road, Diego Martin. King is accused of murdering Wilson on October 20, 2001. The matter is being heard before Justice Herbert Volney at the Port-of-Spain First Criminal Court. According to Rodriguez, he interviewed the accused at the CID office in PoS on January 14, 2002 about Wilson’s murder. Rodriguez said the accused told him the deceased and some other persons confronted him on Independence Square in Port-of-Spain on the evening of the day in question.
“The accused told me ’dem fellas real show off on me that evening about two bogus US hundred dollar bills they say I give them. One hit me with a stone and the other one chop me in my head with a cutlass,’ testified Rodriguez. The police officer also told the court the accused related further that he left the men and walked up Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, but on reaching Queen Street, a man kicked him from behind. “He said the same man pulled out a gun from his pants waist. He also said when he saw the gun he grabbed the gun, following which a shot went off. He said then he realised the man was shot,” Rodriguez said. Andre Wilson, a police officer and brother of the deceased, testified on Wednesday in the matter. He testified that he witnessed his brother’s murder. Hearing resumes today.
