Five kidnap suspects among 13 held

FIVE suspects in the kidnapping of Chase Village businessman Robert Maharaj were among 13 persons arrested during a police exercise which started during the early morning hours and ended  at midday yesterday. The exercise was led by acting Insp Sahadeo Singh of Besson Street CID and officers from the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF). The five suspects whose ages range from 20 to 30 were arrested at several houses in Laventille.

A sixth suspect is still to be held. The five will appear on an identifi-cation parade at Police Adminis-tration Building today. Maharaj, who was kidnapped on Tuesday night but managed to escape on Thursday, is expected to attend the ID parade. Maharaj said he was kept in a makeshift camp at Picton Road, Laventille, and on Thursday, when he was left alone, made good his escape. Other persons arrested included three persons for two recent murders in Laventille.
