Death after fete

A 22-year-old Princes Town man, who was returning from a Carnival fete, was killed instantly when the driver of the car in which he was an occupant lost control and crashed into a light pole at the Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of the Munroe Road Flyover. Martin Seales, a welder, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered massive head injuries. He died on the spot. The driver of the car, Quesi Montrose, and occupants Kaelon Thomas, and Adrian Rocke suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. The four were pulled out of the mangled wreck by fire officers from the Chaguanas Fire Station.

The body of Martin Seales was viewed by District Medical Officer Dr Vashist Mahabir and ordered removed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Reports revealed that Seales and a group of friends from Princes Town were returning from the Barbarosa fete held on Friday night at around 7 am, when the driver of the car in which Seales was an occupant lost control of the vehicle because of a tyre blow-out, and crashed into a light pole. Seales, who was in the back seat, was thrown from the vehicle. His friends said that he thoroughly enjoyed himself at the fete held at Chaguaramas, and was asleep in the back seat when he met his death.

A party of officers led by Inspector Quash, and including Cpl Thomas and PC Marcano went to the scene and carried out inquiries. ACP Mobile Nazamul Hosein yesterday appealed to drivers to desist from speeding. The death of Seales is the second road fatality for the year. During the same period last year eight persons were killed in road accidents.
