Jamaica poised for first innings points

CASTRIES, St Lucia: Jamaica were well poised to take first innings points against the Windward Islands on the second day of their Carib Beer cricket match at the Beausejour Cricket Grounds yesterday. At stumps, the Windwards were reeling at 64 for seven wickets in response to Jamaica’s first innings score of 244. The Jamaican bowlers ripped through the Windwards batting in the post-tea session and four of their batsmen, including former  Test players Devon Smith and Junior Murray, failed to get off the mark.

Only Sergio Fedee, who was still there at the close with 35, offered any resistance. SCORES: JAMAICA 244. WINDWARDS 64 for seven wickets. The Windwards batsmen found the Jamaican bowling too much to cope with. Nikita Miller who fell just one run short of a  half-century, returned to initiate the Wind-wards batting collapse alongside Darren Powell. They each claimed two wickets. Earlier, Bernard spent 162 minutes at the crease in  compiling his top score of 49 which included three boundaries. With skipper Tamar Lambert (39), he featured in a fifth wicket partnership which put on 66 and helped the Jamaicans reach a respectable score. For the Windwards, paceman Kenroy Peters was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 31 runs. His partner Deighton Butler had two for 34 and skipper Rawl Lewis two for 68.
