Christmas present from TT Police
THE EDITOR: Whilst in recent times, it has become increasing popular to criticise the police service, I would like to publicly commend them for their prompt response in my time of need when my vehicle was stolen from me on Christmas morning. Indeed, when I saw my car being driven off by unknown persons in St James, I began to think it would be a bleak Christmas Day. I duly informed officers at the St James Police Station and was in the process of giving a statement when I was shocked to learn that within an hour of my reporting the theft, a team of officers had recovered the vehicle in downtown Port-of-Spain.
In light of the many disparaging reports that are printed in the media and bandied about by word of mouth that portray our police force in a bad light, surely this incident must stand out as a reminder that indeed, they are here to protect and serve our citizens, and that this is an example of the dedication that they show when carrying out their duties. To the officers attached to the St James CID and the Port-of-Spain CID, on behalf of my daughters and myself, I wish to express a heartfelt gratitude for your prompt action and the courtesy with which we were treated during this ordeal.
Although it was a Christmas we would never forget, your efforts contributed to a happy ending. It is as important to acknowledge and compliment a task well done as it is to constructively criticise when the system breaks down. Too often we rush to broadcast the negatives and ignore the positive actions and outcomes of the work done by our police force. For the risks that they face on a daily basis on our behalf, we should be mindful and show our support for a job well done.
