No change after Tobago recount
The PNM’s crushing 11-1 sweep of the DAC in Monday’s Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Elections remained unchanged yesterday after an EBC recount of four constituencies as requested by the DAC. At Bacolet/Mt St George, incumbent PNM Assemblywoman Cynthia Alfred extended her lead over the DAC’s Orville Jordan by one vote and retained the seat defeating Jordan three votes (846 - 843).
George Archer, DAC candidate for Canaan/Bon Accord, conceded defeat to the PNM’s Frank Roberts after two of the ballot boxes were recounted Tuesday afternoon, while the defeated Anthony Christmas failed to show up at the stipulated time for the recount of votes for the Parlatuvier/L’Anse Fourmi/Speyside district where he had lost (720 -1,031) to incumbent PNM Assemblyman Aldington Spencer. The recount for Bethel/Mt Irvine, where the DAC’s Harrisford McMillan was defeated (790 - 1,010) by Whitney Alfred of the PNM, which was to have been conducted at 4 pm Tuesday, was rescheduled to 10 am yesterday. However, an EBC official reported that McMillan took a decision to abort the process after several ballot boxes had been recounted, conceding defeat.
