Our sister’s keeper
THE EDITOR: Dr Petronella Manning-Alleyne should beware of crossing the street in front of any unmarked car driven by a plainclothes police officer. Since this is against the law, she would be sure to be locked up — the Prime Minister himself gave this assurance. The question is, why would the Prime Minister give Dr Alleyne such a warning? Is he aware that she is likely to break any law? Is she being singled out for special attention?
Is she the only person he would ensure is locked up if she breaks the law? What if the particular law does not specify being locked up as a penalty? Is the Prime Minister usurping the duties of the police? What qualifies Dr Alleyne for the attention of the Prime Minister — that she has spoken out against nonsense? The Prime Minister needs to be careful that he does not portray the image of a vengeful leader, one who does not forgive easily. The nation is already too full of people like that; witness the raging murder spree in the country. We need to acknowledge divergent views and recognise that every opinion is valid. We need to be our brother’s, and sister’s keeper.
