Pro League official expects better

FORMER NATIONAL midfielder/forward and current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the TT Pro League Dexter Skeene anticipates growth for the league ahead of the 2005 season. Skeene, who became the league’s first CEO a year ago, stated in a press release: “Growth, development and continued commitment to football in Trinidad and Tobago, in a nutshell, that’s the objective of the League for 2005 and beyond.” The new season will kick off in April and Skeene, a member of the famed Strike Squad outfit, is keen on building from the success of the 2004 Pro Bowl, FCB Cup (both won by W Connection) and the League (which was claimed by North East Stars).

Among the areas that the League would be paying closer attention to are increased spectator participation, connecting with the communities to ensure awareness of the high standard of football provided by the League and arriving at a consensus with regard to its development objectives. As far as the development of the league is concerned, the directors of the eight Pro League clubs, as well as the League’s Board, were involved in a strategic planning meeting recently.

Skeene said: “We are currently formulating objectives and planning strategies for 2005. The Pro League remains committed to the development of local football and ensuring that a high level of professionalism is part of our game. “We want to see professional football grow as an industry in Trinidad and Tobago and we also want to play our part in assisting TT in qualifying for a World Cup,” he ended.
