Meshelly wins Golden Grove kaiso crown

MICHELLE THOMAS, singing as “Empress Meshelly,” won the Golden Grove Women’s calypso competition last Friday with her own composition, “Crime and Corruption.” Thomas won from a field of 13. Second was Rohini “Lady Rohini” Jones who sang about the mistake she made that led to her incarceration and third was Lystra “Copey” Copeland  who also won the “Road March” title. Leela “Lady Warrior” Ramdass-Singh, was fourth. There was also an ole mas competition after the calypso competition with two bands, one comprising convicted prisoners and the other, remand prisoners. Local artistes, Singing Sandra, Impulse, Michelle Mentor, Calypso Kerr, Squeezie Rankin, Exposer, Myron B and “D” Diamond made guest appearances.
