Windwards 58/4 chasing Guyana’s 176
CASTRIES: The Windward Islands ended on 58 for four wickets, chasing Guyana’s first innings score of 176 in their third-round Carib Beer series regional cricket match at the Beausejour Cricket Ground yesterday. Rain delayed play for more than two hours, the second day’s play was shortened by bad weather. Rain and bad light shortened the match by more than two hours on Friday.
When play started, the Windwards bowlers continued to run through the Guyana batting. From 103 for six wickets overnight, Guyana lost three wickets for 33 runs. A quick end to the innings seemed imminent, but wicket keeper Vishal Nagamootoo and No 11 Trevor Garraway had other ideas. The pair took the score from 136 to 176 before Garraway became the fourth victim of fast bowler Kenroy Peters. Former West Indies player Devon Smith continued his run of low scores managing only six when the Windward Islands began their response.
Two more wickets fell at 13 and 17 before Junior Murray and Sergio Fedee rescued the innings. They added 31 for the fourth wicket, most of the runs coming from the bat of Murray who was undefeated at the close with 36. The Windwards need another 119 runs to take a first innings lead.
