Medical studies force out Maraj

MEDICAL studies has forced Trinidad and Tobago opening batsman Tishan Maraj to skip his team’s Carib Beer Cricket Series fourth round match against Windward Islands. And his place in the 13-member squad for the match scheduled to begin on Friday at the Arnos Vale Recreation Ground, St Vincent and the Grenadines is expected to be taken by FCB Clarke Road left-handed batsman Gregory Mahabir.

The Trinidad and Tobago team is scheduled to leave for Kingstown tomorrow. Maraj,  a first-year medical student at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus. A national scholarship winner for outstanding Cambridge University A-Level results in 2003, Maraj already skipped one full year of studies to travel with the West Indies youth team, beaten by Pakistan in the final of  the ICC Junior World Cup tournament in Bangladesh.


The squad:  Daren Ganga (capt), Denesh Ramdin (vice-capt), Sherwin Ganga, Gregory Mahabir, Lendl Simmons, Imran Jan, Shazam Babwah, Richard Kelly, Dave Mohammed, Amit Jaggernauth, Kyron Lynch, Rayad Emrit and Samuel Badree.
Officials are Giles Antoine, manager, David Williams, coach, and Gerard Garcia, trainer.
