Thanks for the memories
THE EDITOR: Allow me to add my voice to the many who have expressed their regrets at the closing of TTT, Radio 610 and associated stations. My first question is whether any steps have been taken to secure the archives of these pioneer organisations? While we are on the subject can anyone tell us what happened to the thousands of invaluable recordings collected by JD Elder and previously stored in the 610 building? Please reassure us!
On a happier note let us remember the television launch of TT’s most famous journalist. I recall that in 1968/69 a small group met at my home at least once per week to launch and support TT’s first TV weekly discussion programme, — Lloyd Best, Roy Prieswerk, Ossie Morris, Neville Linton and others. Under the aegis of the UWI Extra Mural Department we presented various perspectives on the most critical issues. The series started off as “Dialogue” and was later named “Issues and Ideas” with responsibilities assumed by the Prime Minister’s Office. Who was the Anchor Man? A young radio announcer, accepting his first assignment on television, Moderator McDonald did us all proud, and went on to worldwide prominence in the UK. Thank you TTT for this and so many more pioneering achievements. God bless.
