Attorney attacks prosecutor’s conduct at trial

Attorney for two of three men convicted of killing State witness Clint Huggins yesterday unleashed a blistering attack before the Appeal Court on the conduct of senior State prosecutor Wayne Rajbansie, at the trial. Ian Stuart Brook also suggested that trial judge Justice Alice Yorke Soo-Hon had made certain errors in law. Brook told the court Rajbansie was guilty of making prejudicial and inflammatory remarks in his address to the jury, misquoted evidence and failed to discharge his duty as a minister of justice, so that a miscarriage of justice occurred.

He also accused Rajbansie of engaging in theatrics, cheap tricks and scandalous suggestions designed to destroy his credibility and his clients in the eyes of the jury. On more than one occasion, attorney Dana Seetahal, who is representing the State in the appeal, objected to Brook’s assertion, stating he had no evidence to prove the point. President of the court, Justice Roger Hamel-Smith, agreed that all they had to go on were written words. Hearing will continue today.
