Good deeds by PM
THE EDITOR: I cannot understand how some of our citizens can attempt to make political profit over the misfortune of our people. Recently, we Trinbagonians have suffered at the hand of nature. There were floods in those areas that have been traditionally flood prone and indeed there have been cases of suffering among our people. Landslips have inflicted an unusually heavy toll on some of us. It is of little comfort to state that some of these disasters were the consequences of our own irresponsibility. The Government has acted swiftly to alleviate the hardships of our unfortunate citizens.
Regrettably, there is no magic wand to wave so that a quick fix would become an instant fix. Here is were some utterly irresponsible opposition criticism becomes intolerably divisive. There have been innuendoes about our Prime Minister seeking to assist some of our Caribbean brothers first and ignoring certain Trinis of a particular ethnic background. This is a most reprehensible political strategy. I have heard and read comments where the caring, human responses of Mr Manning and his Government have been classified as the vaulting ambition of our Prime Minister to be a Caribbean political leader.
Well the fact is that Mr Manning is already a Caribbean political leader and he is a man who is not ashamed to live by the Christian ideals which he publicly confesses. Politicians have often been described as amoral men whose rule of life is that the ends justify the means. I feel proud to know that our leader is willing and prepared to go to assist our other human brothers in need whether they be in Grenada next door or far away in the Indian Ocean. We are not “big shots” but the Prime Minister has demonstrated that we are big of spirit and heart. Lead the way Mr Manning, we who understand the meaning of the good news are firmly on your side.
