Father of four stabbed to death

A VILLAGE feud between two brothers and a man who was allegedly robbed by the brothers some months ago is believed to have been the cause for a street brawl which ended in death on Tuesday night in Lengua Village, Princes Town. Clifton Alleyne, a 46-year-old father of four, of Mahogany Trace, Lengua Village, was reportedly stabbed several times in his chest and back during a fight. According to police, Alleyne claimed that several months ago he was beaten badly and robbed by the brothers who lived in the same village. Police told Newsday that around 8.15 pm on Tuesday, Alleyne, his brother Eric and their friend, alighted from a taxi on St Croix Road — in front of the brothers’ home. Alleyne spotted the brothers, whom he claimed had robbed him, and an argument broke out on the street.

The shouting turned into a fight in which Alleyne was stabbed repeatedly, and he slumped to the ground. Neighbours who heard the shouting and saw the fight, telephoned the police. An EHS ambulance was called and a semi-conscious Alleyne was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH), where doctors pronounced him dead-on-arrival. The brothers, who were also injured in the fight, sought medical attention at the same hospital and up to yesterday, one of them remained warded under police guard. The other was treated and discharged on Tuesday night, and was promptly arrested by police.

Alleyne lived with his adopted sister Jean Alexander, who yesterday described him to Newsday as a “quiet, loving man who never got into trouble.” Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Nadir Mohammed, ASP Carol Collymore, Insp Brereton and Cpl Nazoor Hosein. An autopsy yesterday on Alleyne’s body at the Forensic Sciences Centre in Federation Park, St James, confirmed death was due to shock and haemorrhage consistent with multiple stab wounds. Cpl Hosein who is continuing investigations was expected to seek instructions from Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday afternoon.
