Miss Lover Lover beats clock

Miss Lover Lover showed she has not lost her condition with an impressive display of speed yesterday over 1000 metres on the gallops course at Santa Rosa Park, Arima yesterday. The daughter of Friendly Lover/ Winning Spurs, stabled at trainer Edmund de Freitas’s Bonanza Farm, arrived on the premises of the racing plant just as the rail was being drawn at the entrance onto the course. This signalled the end to the first session of exercises. Miss Lover Lover was seen heading towards to the smaller exercise course which remains open, but bypassed it, and heading further, filtered onto the main course through the exit point horses use to return the paddock.

His rider, choosing not to eat into the time used by the maintainance crew for  watering and grading the course, wasted little time in getting the Stewards Cup runner-up into stride. As he got over the five-year-old mare, she settled into stride quickly and shifted gear from the 1000 metres to maintain steady clips of 24 before completing the job asked in the brilliant time of 1:00.80 seconds. Arts And Lovers sent a message to her opponents in the Soca Monarch sprint on tomorrow’s “Evening Lime” programme, that she intends to keep her sequence of victories going with handy spin over 800 metres. The daughter of Gilgamesh/ Sizzling, was voted champion two-year-old filly but lost the “Horse Of The Year” battle to Sugar Mike at the Jetsam Awards function held at the Hilton Trinidad on Januray 21.

She stretched out nicely yesterday to cover the distance in 52.23 seconds in company with older stablemate Smooth Operator. Pave The Way also looked in peak condition in pacing the same trip. Trainer Grant Lourenco’s inmate which open his campaign on a winning note  was under the wraps of jockey Hannif Emamalie in the preparation for his step-up to the Restricted Handicap sprint on tomorrow’s eight-race card.
