Penal man stabbed to death
A BRUTAL knife-attack on two men in Penal early yesterday morning left one dead and another in hospital in serious condition. The deceased — Clint Sukhu, 30, a painter of Batchya Village in Penal — bled to death at the scene of the attack a side road off SS Erin Road Penal. The other man — Anthony Latchmansingh, 27, of Palmiste, San Fernando — escaped from the assailant with stab wounds. Police said the incident occurred around 3.30 am in a dump site. Police are uncertain as to the motive for Sukhu’s killing, but said Latchmansingh and Sukhu were seen at Caribbean Queen bar at SS Erin Road the hours before the incident on Thursday night.
A waitress at the bar told Newsday that Suhku was a regular patron, but the first time she had seen Latchmansingh in the bar was on Thursday night. The waitress said Sukhu and Latchmansingh left the bar around midnight. Some two and a half hours later, while sweeping the bar, she observed Latchmansingh running into the bar crying. “He was bawling for help and we called the police,” she said. A party of policemen arrived at the bar and was taken to the dump site where they found Sukhu lying dead. He was bleeding from severe stab wounds about the body. Latchmansingh is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. Sukhu’s elder brother, who identified the body, told Newsday his brother was accustomed to “liming and drinking.” Police have detained a young man from the district who has been assisting the investigation.
