Accident ends US visitor’s mas plans
A FIRST time visitor to Trinidad Carnival, Alayna Casanova, of the United States, was struck by a car early yesterday morning as she attempted to cross the road on South Quay in the vicinity of City Gate, Port-of-Spain. Casanova told Sunday Newsday, she was on the zebra crossing when she heard a car horn. She said she ran forward but the car, a green car, swerved forward. She said she tried going backward and the driver did likewise, hitting her. She said the driver then sped off.
An ambulance was summoned and Casanova was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she was treated and discharged. A report was made to the police. Casanova was suffering from severe pains about the body yesterday and had to use crutches to walk. She told Sunday Newsday as a result she could no longer play mas tomorrow and Tuesday with Poison. Casanova leaves for Florida on Ash Wednesday.
