Guyana win on first innings

BRIDGETOWN: Guyana edged Barbados for first innings lead in their bottom-of-the-table clash yesterday in the fifth round of the Carib Beer Series regional cricket match at Kensington Oval. The visitors, overnight 35 without loss in pursuit of  Barbados’ first day total of 224, were bowled out for 249 just before the close.

Barbados, trailing by 25, finished on four without loss in their second innings. Guyana were led by opener Ryan Ramdass, who topscored with 57. Brothers Mahendra Nagamootoo (32) and Vishal Nagamootoo (33 not out) shared a crucial late order partnership after Barbados’ three-pronged pace attack gave their team hope in mid-afternoon. Jason Bennett took four for 70 while a fired-up Ryan Nurse impressed with three for 32. Antonio Thomas claimed two for 79.
