Carnival was good says DCP Allard
WHILE nine murders, several stabbings, shootings and the seizure of several weapons were made over the Carnival weekend, Deputy Commissioner of Police Oswin Allard does not believe that Carnival 2005 was bad. “Despite the writing of the media saying something else the Carnival was good and clean.” The DCP however, refused to say more except to direct us to Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul whom he said would be making a statement on Carnival this week.
Of the nine murders over the weekend, two were directly related to Carnival, while several stabbings, robberies and some shootings were also associated with the greatest festival on earth. Several stations along the East-West Corridor, central and south TT have confirmed that a number of weapons including machetes, knives, daggers, clubs, pieces of irons, chains, knuckles and others have been seized and some arrests made. They have however, told Newsday that while there has been a slight increase in crime from over the last two years, the weapons seized were no more than what were seized in 2003 and 2004.
