PowerGen Super Sixes tomorrow

TRINIDAD and Tobago Secondary Schools Cricket League’s PowerGen Super Sixes will get underway tomorrow. And the series will add sparkle to the national premier schoolboy’s competitions. The PowerGen SSCL Super Sixes tournament was inaugurated last year and it was a big attraction for the nation’s talented young players who gave their all for top honours. Princes Town Senior Comprehensive is the defending champion team.

This year’s tournament which was scheduled to start on January 25 was affected by inclement weather conditions and forced SSCL’s president Forbes Persaud and his executive members to postpone it until tomorrow. However, the country experienced brilliant sunshine over the last two weeks and allowed enough time for better ground preparation. This year’s tournament is held in recognition of the United Nations Assembly International Year of Physical Education and Sport. And SSCL officials with other dignitaries will assemble at the Inshan Ali Park for a grand opening ceremony at 9 am.

Among the dignitaries invited to attend are the Education Minister Hazel Manning, Sports Minister Roger Boynes, PowerGen chairman Leo Martin, US Ambassador Roy Austin, PowerGen CEO Garth Chatoor, Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Ellis Lewis,  PowerGen officials Joy Ram Logan, Hyacinth Guy and corporate communications manager Omar Khan. The 16 secondary schools which compete in the SSCL Championship Division will be vying for top honours in this year’s competition which will be staged at four different venues. They will be sub-divided into four groups. Apart from Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, matches will be played at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva; Gilbert Park, California and Calcutta recreation ground.
