Massive clean-up in PoS

A massive clean-up is being helpd in the city of Port-of-Spain and the Queen’s Park Savannah following this year’s Carnival celebrations.  Members of the National Carnival Commission, the Port-of-Spain Corporation, and SWMCOL, had scores of workers on the job to clean up the mountains of garbage on the streets and in the Queen’s Park Savannah.

Port-of-Spain’s Mayor, Murchison Brown, told Newsday the clean-up system is the same one used for many years. “It is the normal post-Carnival thing and we just put the system in place,” he said. However, when it came to reports  of crime during Carnival, he denied having any incidents in his district. “I saw they had stabbings mentioned in the papers, but I don’t have anything to report,” he added. With regards to making Carnival better in 2006, he said, “We will be having a post-Carnival meeting soon with the corporation and others to see about infrastructure and other things.” Representatives of the SWMCOL and NCC were unavailable for comment.
