‘Clash of Pres’ in PowerGen cricket

DEFENDING national champions Presentation College, Chaguanas, and their San Fernando-based Presentation counterparts clash in the feature PowerGen Secondary Schools League fourth round match today. Venue for the “Clash of Pres” is Union Hall, San Fernando. Judging from last week’s results, Raphick Jumadeen-coached Pres (S/Fdo) will be hoping to overpower the Lalman Kowlessar-coached Pres  (Chag).

But it will be a big task for the challengers, as the Sando boys boast two match-winning spinners in national skipper Kavesh Kantasingh and his off-spinning colleague Ansil Bhaggan. Apart from this spin duo, there are batsmen Manoj Sirju, Deon Bennette, Valmiki Deonarine and Jairaj Dilraj whose form with the bat make it doubly difficult for “Pres” (S/Fdo). “Pres” (S/Fdo) will be relying on Somant Maraj, Kareem Jumadeen, Clint Legall and Reyaz Ali Khan for their resistance to the champs. Currently, “Pres” (Chag) lead the league with 59 points,  InterCol winners  Barrackpore are next on 38. PrincesTown have 35 points, Naparima 34, “Pres” (S/Fdo) 21, Union Claxton Bay 17, Pleasantville 16 and ASJA (Charlieville) 16.

In the other Zonal matches, Barrackpore will host Pleasantville; Princes Town play Naparima and ASJA take on Union Claxton Bay. In the North-East group, new leaders El Dorado meet St Mary’s, defending zonal champs Tranquillity play St Anthony’s at Westmoorings, Fatima entertain QRC at their Mucurapo ground and Hillview College take on Toco Composite. El Dorado lead the zone with 66 points ahead of  Toco Composite 37, Fatima 27, Hillview 26, QRC 25, St Anthony’s 17, St Mary’s 16 and Tranquillity 9.
