Morvant/Laventille pound Belmont in b-ball

Continuing a tradition that has endured for  four years, the 2005 Morvant/Laventille Secondary Under-17 team overran Belmont Secondary 57-27 in NGC/Express Secondary Schools Basketball League North Zone action at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex yesterday. Morvant/Laventille, division champions in 2002 and 2003, have always put in great performances in the Under-17 Division, and Nathaniel Williams top-scored with 27 points and Kirton Legerton scored 13 to seal the result.

The Belmont boys who trailed Morvant/Laventille 24-10 at the half,  were totally outclassed and Barry Ninvale with seven points and Fidel Coker five, were their only players on the final scoresheet. In the second match of the double-header, Tranquillity Under-20s kept their 100 percent  record intact after beating league debutants HYPE 51-39 at the end of a particularly dominant showing. Kosi Frank scored a game-high 20 points, while Kurtis Jack supported with 13 for Tranquil, the HYPE lads got 15 points from Jamal Clark and 10 from Fabien St John, in a game in which they were behind 26-17 at the half. Games continue today at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex with St Jude’s taking on Diego Marin Junior Secondary in an Under-15 girls fixture from 2.30 pm, and St Anthony’s play Diego Martin Junior Secondary in the  Under-17 Division in the day’s other match from  3.30 pm.
