PowerGen stop Clarke Road in Carib Shield

Penetrative bowling by promising pacer Brent Harriot (four for 28) sparked PowerGen Sports to a convincing 36-run victory over arch-rivals FCB Clarke Road in their crucial Carib Shield Group “D” match at the Syne Village ground yesterday. Chasing a victory target of 151, Clarke were skittled out for 114 off 26.4 overs. Alan Mahabir topscored with 26 while Mukesh Persad and Mahadeo Moonesar contributed 24 and 20 respectively. PowerGen’s victory march was engineered by the brilliance of Harriot who copped the “Man-of-the-Match” award with his solid all-round performance after having led the way as well with the bat on Tuesday when he scored 29. Farrel Jugmohan (two for 14) and Vishal Arjune (two for 20) were the other wicket-takers. Superb batting by Loknauth Ramsuchit (61 not out), William Perkins (25), Brent Lezama (22) and skipper Joel Pamphille (36 not out) were enough to turn back the challenge of Felicity Invaders.

The defending champs recorded an emphatic eight-wicket triumph and had 4.3 overs to spare at Gilbert Park, California. Perkins smashed six fours off 18 balls for his 25 and was dismissed at 31 for one. Lezama blasted four fours for his 22 but it was Ramsuchit with seven fours and Pamphille with three fours who together added an invaluable 84 runs for the unbroken third wicket partnership. Ramsuchit unbeaten 61 was scored off 63 balls and his defiant knock earned him the “Man-of-the-Match” award. Across the road at the Inshan Ali Park, Clico Preysal romped to an exciting seven-wicket win over Joe Public Munroe Road. They raced to 165 for three off 27.4 overs with Lyndon James hitting two sixes and four fours in his unbeaten 70 while Shazam Babwah hammered four massive sixes and three fours for 52 as they posted 93 for the second wicket partnership. Aaron Ragoonath counted two sixes and a four for 34 not out.
