A culture of losing

THE EDITOR: We the ardent fans and supporters of our cricketers and soccer teams, are sick and tired, of being sick and tired of what we call this “culture of losing.” During the U B Triangular One Day Cricket Series in Australia, we painfully watched as the West Indies team by dint of lack of dedication, application and plain common sense, injudiciously and atrociously threw away their wickets. Bowlers refusing to bowl consistent line and length and the fielding.

Well, scrappy, sporadic, up and down, to say the least. With respect to the soccer match that was played at the Queen’s Park Oval on Ash Wednesday. What this Trinidad team should have done in the beginning they did it in the ending up of the game. That is, playing possession soccer, mixing up their passes and bombarding the opponent’s goal  relentlessly. Failure to do these things as we know, cost them the match to a team we think they can beat on any given day with their inherent skills.

We of the sporting fraternity are saying that we are fed up with this losing syndrome. Enough is enough with this mediocrity. We have tried winners and losers but we prefer winners best. Whatever it takes to stop this apparent “losing haemorrhaging syndrome” in both cricket and soccer departments, if it takes more money, more togetherness, cohesiveness, more understanding, more sense of patriotism, more “gelling,” more bonding, my friends, whatever it takes to win and keep on winning or to get the job done let us please to it. Thank you.
