Windwards aim at ‘islands’ double
ST GEORGE’S: After clinching an intriguing contest in the first half of the season, Windward Islands will be looking to complete a double win over Leeward Islands in their eighth round match of the Carib Beer 2005 Cricket Series, starting today at the Tanteen Oval. In the fifth round of matches earlier this month, the Windwards played out of their skins to complete a five-wicket win over the Leewards in Charlotte Amalie.
The hosts will be looking to have the same level of success they did in the United States Virgin Islands, but the Leewards have grown in strength since that match and will be looking to continue their surge up the standings. The match is the only first-class fixture that will be contested in Grenada this season, since the Queen’s Park Stadium on the other side of town sustained heavy damage during the passage of Hurricane Ivan last year and still lies in ruins. The Tanteen Oval was also badly affected by the fury of Ivan, but the sponsors of the competition insisted that a match be hosted in the Spice Isle in tribute to the resilience of the people of the island.
