Clarke Road look to regroup
FCB CLARKE Road United, reigning Carib National Cricket League Division One champions, and newly-promoted W-Connection Wanderers will clash in the two-day second round league match at Gilbert Park, California starting today from 10 am. The Mahadeo Bodoe-led Clarke Road secured first innings points from former champs Ceramic MerryBoys in their first round encounter two weeks ago at Wilson Road while the Joel Pamphille-led Wanderers conceded first innings honours to Tile It Central Sports in a thrilling match at Gilbert Park, California. Central Sports’ lower order batsmen battled for their lives to stave off a shock defeat after being well placed after the first innings struggles were over.
Clarke Road would need to regroup following their mid-week defeat to arch-rivals PowerGen Sports at Syne Village. Wanderers are at home and although lacking as much experience as their counterparts they would be out to prove that they want to become giant-killers this season. It will be no cake walk especially with former national spinners Mukesh Persad and David Sultan spearheading Clarke Road’s campaign again. They will have the services of the talented all-rounders Alan Mahabir, Sean Siloch and Mahadeo Moonesar as well as Guyanese middle-order specialist Homchand Pooran who was the batting hero alongside Ryerson Bhagoo in the first round.
Wanderers will once again be depending heavily on their attacking openers Loknauth Ramsuchit and William Perkins plus the solidity of Narine Bidhesi and skipper Pamphille to amass a challenging total, for their pacers Theodore Modeste and Atiba plus spinners Sanjeev Gooljar and Kishore Lalchan to do the job of restricting the visitors to small totals. Tile It Central Sports, current leader on 18 points, will host MerryBoys at the Presentation College, Chaguanas while Clico Preysal will entertain Alescon Comet at the Inshan Ali Park. Queen’s Park Cricket Club will travel to deep southland to engage in battle with homesters PowerGen Sports at their venue at Syne Village, Penal.
