Jamaica snatch first innings points

DESPITE superb bowling by Trinidad and Tobago’s Dave Mohammed who took four wickets for 66 runs and Rayad Emrit three for 32, Jamaica snatched first innings honours through the splendid efforts of Wavell Hinds (46), Xavier Marshall (45), Donovan Pagon (37), Dave Bernard (44) and Jerome Taylor (35) on the second day of the Carib Beer Cricket Series eighth round match at Shaw Park, Tobago, yesterday. Trinidad and Tobago resumed on 196 for eight wickets, and were soon dismissed for 205 with skipper Daren Ganga (113), adding just nine runs to his overnight score. Jamaican pacer Jerome Taylor took four wickets for 55 and off-spinner Odean Brown took three wickets for 22.

Jamaica replied positively, but declined dramatically from 134 for two wickets to 179 for eight at tea. But Dave Bernard and Taylor put on 55 runs in a determined ninth-wicket partnership to see Jamaica reach 234 for a 33-run lead, before Bernard was bowled by Samuel Badree and the innings folded swiftly. When Trinidad and Tobago batted a second time, they lost Imran Khan and ended the day on  21 for one wicket. Skipper Wavell Hinds and youthful Marshall gave the Jamaicans a sold start with an enterprising 70-run first wicket partnership. Marshall was the more aggressive partner and hit five fours off 66 balls before he was out.
