Pro League attract two more
THERE could be ten teams in this season’s T&T Pro League, and applications have started to trickle in. To date, Petrotrin-sponsored Southern Football Association champs United Petrotrin and Bi-Water Stokelyvale from sister-island Tobago have applied to play in the new season which is scheduled to kick off on April 2. According to T&T Pro League officials, clubs eligible for promotion from the National Super League have not indicated their intention to take up their place. Chief Executive Officer Dexter Skeene said the league issued open invitations to interested teams, and confirmed the receipt of applications to join the T&T Pro League from both United Petrotrin and Stokelyvale and described it as “good news.”
He pointed out, “the fact that there are teams on the outside eager and interested in becoming professional outfits and joining the ranks augurs well for the future of the league.” Word from the grapevine has it that Joe Public who withdrew from the league last season and won both the leagwne and knockout in the NSL are planning to gain re-admission. But according to the T&T Pro League, no application from them has been received to date. Skeene said the board of the T&T Pro League will decide on Thursday, whether United Petrotrin, Stokelyvale or any other applicant will be admitted into the league. He said the board of directors will review each case and has requested some additional information from United Petrotrin and Stokelyvale administrators. Last season, North East Stars ended the reign of CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh by winning the eight-team league.
