Gonsalves new TT Open champ
DION GONSALVES got the better of defending champ Trevor Levine, in a three-hole playoff, to walk away with the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Open title yesterday. After four rounds at the St Andrew’s Golf Course, Moka, Maraval, Gonsalves (76 yesterday), who led since the opening day, and the Kittitian Levine (78) were deadlocked on one-under-par 287. But, in fading light, Gonsalves managed to hold his nerves to lift the prestigious title.
Former champ Carlos “Sexy” Baynes was third with 290, after shooting 79 yesterday, while juniors Simon Merry (72) and Ben Martin (74) were joint fourth with 292. Completing the top ten were Mitchum Jasper 295, James Johnson 297, Judd Cozier and Scott Stollmeyer 304, and Kyle Knaggs 305. Ahamad Ali claimed the Men’s First Flight with 320, followed by Reynold Deonath 321, Haafiz Hassanali 325 and Glen Charlett 326 while Arjoon Samlal took the Seniors with 299, ahead of Edward ‘Teddy’ Grell 303, Ray Roberts 306 and Tyrone Leong 310. And Pat Suraj captured the Super-Seniors category with 309, while Peter Hale was second with 314 and Narine Sooknanan third with 316.
