Old Mac Exchange poised in Superleague
OLD MAC Exchange stepped up their challenge in the Central Zone Superleague cricket competition with a big victory over the weekend against Spoilers. Their innings and 62-run victory placed them on 66 points, just four adrift of leaders Endeavour with Brickfield in third position on 62 points. The Exchange boys owed their weekend’s triumph to outstanding bowling by former policeman Jadonanan Peack and Barbadian Kirk Straugh who combined to rout the Endeavour, Chaguanas team for 63 and 103. Batting first, Spoliers had no answer to Peack who claimed four for 17 in 13 overs while Nigel Rambaran offered the only resistance with a fighting knock of 24.
In their turn at the crease Exchange piled on 228 with Clint Ramdial hitting a top score of 51 with other good totals coming from Lindsey Rondon (33) and Roshan Bisnath (30). Best of the Spoilers bowlers was Anil Bharath who snared three for 79. And when Spoilers batted again, trailing by 165 runs, Straugh applied the pressure taking five for 34 in only eight overs as the visitors were humbled for 103, losing by an innings and 62 runs. Two weekends ago the Old Mac Rice sponsored team of Couva conceded first innings points but made a valiant attempt to force an outright victory.
Taking first knock, Exchange were dismissed for 171 with Roshad Bisnath getting 39 and Anthony Ragoo, 37. Sheriff Mohammed claimed three for 42. Valleyboys of Preysal made 184 in their turn at the crease with Mohammed turning in a brilliant allround performance with 81. For Exchange Shakeer Manu had six wicjets for 42 runs. Trailing by 13 runs, Exchange declared their second innings on 255 for nine with Lindsey Ronson hammering 72 and Manu, 45. Set 243 for victory, Valleyboys finished at 106 for six with Kevin Nerie taking three for 12. Today Exchange take on Spoilers in the week-day 30-overs match at Endeavour.
