Save TT from the bottomless pit

THE EDITOR: The Hallmark of a backward and primitive country like Trinidad and Tobago is the ability to allow the country to descend to chaos and then attempt to introduce draconian measures in an effort to solve problems brought on by years of criminal negligence and neglect. Suddenly, there is now a call for “stricter gun laws,” an effort to introduce a US type patriot act — laws based on paranoia, increase in extra judicial killings and so on. Get the picture impending anarchy. As I drive or as I am driven around this country, I observe what can only be considered psychopathic driving.

If I travel by maxi taxi it is “attempted suicide by maxi taxi.” I walk around Port-of-Spain and there are either pedestrians crossing the streets in the path of speeding traffic with a “bounce me nah” attitude or drivers moving from minor road to major road without slowing down or applying brakes or applying brakes after getting into the middle of the major road. Speak to the driver about it and you will get the cussing of your life. Again, on my walks through Port-of-Spain I see vagrants by the dozens and the walls smell stink of urine. Things reached “bottom level” when I heard a wall urinator complaining to his liming side that someone had the audacity to defecate near the spot on the wall, which he uses.

Continuing my walks I often wonder when last were the streets of Port-of-Spain washed and when last were offensive piles of garbage removed. Apart from scratching, what other activity is the City Council involved in? Our whole national mind set is conditioned by subhuman baboon-like behaviour and our children and grandchildren are doomed because they use adults as role models. Additionally, they are being conditioned by the environment. Each year we are losing another generation and yet there are those arrogant and misleading idiots who try to fool the less foolish with smoke and mirror acts and with promises which they have no intention to or are unable to keep. However, there is one game in town we seem to be winning — “the run yuh mouth marathon.”
