McGarrell comes in for Ramdass
GEORGETOWN: Former West Indies left-arm spinner Neil McGarrell is returning to Guyana’s squad for the 10th and final round of the Carib Beer Series regional cricket tournament this weekend. McGarrell, who has missed Guyana’s last four matches, replaces in form opening batsman Ryan Ramdass in the squad to tackle the Leeward Islands at Hampton Court, starting tomorrow.
Opening batsman Ramdass, who has registered three centuries so far in the Carib Beer Series, has been picked in the West Indies 22-man training squad but misses the final round because of an ankle injury he suffered while fielding against the Windward Islands last weekend. After representing Guyana in the first-half of the season, McGarrell was sidelined for the sixth round match against Trinidad and Tobago and was unable to get back into the side for subsequent matches.
The Guyanese have an outside chance of making the Carib Beer Challenge final against Jamaica but must secure maximum 12 points from the final game and hope that Barbados beat Trinidad and Tobago for them to advance to the play-off. Guyana Squad: Shivnarine Chanderpaul (captain), Sewnarine Chattergoon, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin, Lennox Cush, Damodar Daesrath, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Vishal Nagamootoo, Neil McGarrell, Reon King, Esaun Crandon, and Imran Jafarally.
