Parkites defeat Central Sports in Carib Shield

Queen’s Park Cricket Club defeated Tile It Central Sports by 31 runs and clinched the final semi-final spot of the Carib Shield Midweek competition. The Parkites will clash with Alescon Comet in the semi-final. The delayed match concluded yesterday at The Oval in port-of-Spain where Central Sports reached 163 for seven wickets off the allotted 30 overs. This was in reply to the Parkites’ 194 for five off their 30 on Wednesday afternoon. Jonathan Augustus led the way for the Parkites with a brilliant 79 not out off 73 balls.

He struck one six and five fours while former WI player Vasbert Drakes contributed for a belligerent 58 which included four sixes and three fours off 40 balls. Yesterday, Varendra Maharaj blazed eight fours off 26 balls as he topscored for Central Sports with 38. James Dodds made 33 with one six and three fours but their contributions were not enough to carry their team to the next round. They fell short by 31 runs. Defending champions W-Connection Wanderers will do battle with PowerGen Sports in the other semi-final encounter. The venues are to be announced by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.
