Sam content with super-sub role

WALES:  Despite scoring a 90th-minute winner for Wrexham against Oldham Athletic last Saturday, Trinidad and Tobago’s Hector Sam still thinks he will remain in the role of substitute for the club’s next match this weekend. Sam’s strike coming off the bench was his third goal in six matches for the Welsh club but the 27-year-old said he did not believe this would automatically push him into the starting 11.

“I’ll be on the bench for the next game,” Sam said Monday. “I’ll be super-sub next match and whoever plays, I just want to win at this point in time because three points is vital for us.” He added: “You never know what can happen and whoever plays I’ll just be happy. I’m a professional and sometimes you have just got to go with the flow.” Sam, who signed for Wrexham in the 2001/02 season, has endured some difficult times with the club this season after the club ran into financial difficulties, causing it to be put in administration.

Under the Football Association’s rules, the club was penalised ten points and this saw Wrexham fall into the relegation zone after previously being a middle-of-the-table team. “We have a massive task at hand and we’ve just got to try to get out of the relegation zone,” Sam explained. “You’ve got to believe because if you don’t, you will never achieve anything. There is a massive belief within the team that we are going to do it.” Wrexham are currently 22nd in the 24-team table on 36 points.
