Wanderers, Comet in Carib Shield final
Opening batsmen William Perkins (79) and Looknath Ramsuchit (73) shared the “Man of Match” honours when they blasted PowerGen Sports bowlers in another run-fest to pilot W-Connection Wanderers into the final of the Carib Shield Midweek cricket competition. The duo featured in an enterprising first wicket partnership of 105 off 11 overs to lay the foundation for a thrilling seven-wicket victory in their semi-final at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal yesterday. Perkins hammered three sixes and eleven fours off only 42 balls as he set the Preysal ground ablaze. His electrifying innings took 43 minutes.
Ramsuchit kept his team on course with six fours off 67 balls. The 21-year-old was dismissed with only four runs required for victory at 210 for three. Together with Brent Lezama (27), they posted 57 runs for the second wicket and then were assisted by skipper Narine Bidhesi (30 not out) in a third wicket partnership which brought 46 runs and the chance to defend their crown. Despite a blazing 84 by all-rounder Ricardo Powell and 47 by Dwayne Bravo, Queen’s Park bowed to Alescon Comet who secured a 27-run victory at Gilbert Park, California. With a challenging 242 runs to get in 30 overs, the Parkites were dismissed for 214 in the 29th over. Powell smashed five towering sixes and nine fours off 52 balls while Bravo stroked five fours off 49 balls.
